Foundation

Goal/policy

The Foundation is committed to defend and assist lawyers who are threatened, attacked or murdered in various countries around the world because of their (human rights) work. These activities continue unabated, after the transfer of the annual organization of the Day of the Endangered Lawyer to a Coalition of legal organizations.

In the Netherlands, the actual day of the Endangered Lawyer is supported by the Foundation by various activities to reinforce this event.

The Foundation communicates with colleagues and organizations and maintains contact with other organizations that work on behalf of threatened lawyers, writes to authorities, attends trials and works on petitions.

The Foundation supports colleagues who have fled to the Netherlands or Europe and brings them into contact with each other so that they can support each other. To this end, visits are made and meetings are organized or attended. The Foundation also cares for the families of murdered lawyers. Practical and financial support is given, for example to children, in order to complete their education.

Annual figures

Thanks to the generous support of a church institution and other donations, the Foundation has resources to carry out its activities.

The maintenance costs of the Foundation are in reasonable proportion to the expenses that benefit the purpose of the institution, especially because the founders make the Secretariat of their office available to the Foundation and the Director works pro bono.

All plans are thoroughly discussed by the Board and in adequate cooperation with other lawyer organizations.

Members of the Board are volunteers, who generously donate their time, expertise and passion to lead the organization towards its goals without financial compensation.
